The Sacred Soil

Reimagining youth education through the language of land, care, and hope

Where learning, healing, and community meet

In collaboration with The Pollination Project, Tanah Air Udara seeks to transform schoolyards and children’s communities in Indonesia into regenerative micro-gardens and youth-led eco-labs.

Across many places -in villages and cities-, industrial farming and rigid education systems have distanced children from the land and the wisdom of their ancestors. Soils are depleted, traditions are fading, and young people often feel disconnected from both environment and culture. The Sacred Soil responds by creating living classrooms where care for the earth and care for the self go hand in hand.

Here, children (ideally aged 10–13) learn to honor the soil, grow food, and practice ecological awareness through hands-on experience. They listen to stories from elders, keep farm diaries, and share their harvests. What begins with seeds in small pots can grow into something larger: a movement to heal the land, preserve ancestral knowledge, and cultivate resilience.

This initiative is more than gardening—it is a journey of reconnection. Soil becomes sacred, culture comes alive, and a new generation emerges as guardians of the earth. With the support of The Pollination ProjectThe Sacred Soil plants the first seeds of a vision: schools and communities across Indonesia reimagining youth education through the language of land, care, and hope.
